Jan Rezek is Managing Director and co-founder of Nordic Innovators Corporate Finance, a Danish boutique specialising in strategic capital structuring for growth and innovation-driven businesses. As a founding member of Advisiom, he came to Gibraltar to explore how a globally connected network could extend the firm’s reach beyond Denmark. We sat down with him to discuss the rise of venture debt, the financing of green initiatives, and why fewer deals done closer to the client is a strategy, not a compromise.
Why don’t you start by telling us who you are, your firm, and where you’re joining us from? My name is Jan. I’m the Managing Director at Nordic Innovators Corporate Finance, a boutique located in Denmark.
And in one sentence, what does your firm do best? I think our absolute best and unique selling proposition is being able to stack up capital in the least dilutive way first. Given our group structure, we are actually able to push in some non-dilutive grants, then project or venture debt finance, and only then equity. At the same time, we’re able to prepare the company for a sell-side.
What made you say yes to Advisiom? The reason we said yes to Advisiom is the global reach and also the access to information beyond our firm’s borders. What is the best practice? Where can we maybe improve? What do we do better than others?
What would you say is the most interesting deal trend in your market right now? The financing of green initiatives, or environmental initiatives. And that’s exactly where Nordic Innovators Corporate Finance is also standing out, being able to stack up the non-dilutive parts. The combination of capital in a strategic way is actually what we see as the biggest trend, and we also try to support it. On top of that, we also see a big trend in the onboarding of venture debt as an instrument. It has been around since the late 90s, but is not that well known among founders. We see that on the rise.
"The financing of green initiatives is the biggest trend in our market"
Jan Rezek, Managing Director at NICF
Complete this sentence: The boutique advantage is? Definitely being closer to the client, being able to deepen relationships, not just being a phone number on someone’s list, and being able to do maybe fewer deals, but definitely closer to the market.
Where do you want to see the Advisiom network this time next year? I would like Advisiom to be in a place where we’re more spread globally, with members representing speciality sectors. I definitely want to see the Nordic region fully represented, and I definitely want to see people having the same sort of mindset that we see already here, because the cooperation is just beyond expectations.
Jan Rezek is Managing Director and co-founder of NICF. After years in national and EU grant financing at Nordic Innovators, he kept seeing the same pattern: clients in need of financing had to approach several financial advisors to get the full mix. As a result, he built NICF in 2024 to close that gap and to complement the group so clients have a genuine one-stop shop – from grants to venture and project debt, equity financing and exits.
Jan is a go-to adviser to the C-suite, structures complex transactions through a strategic lens, aligning deal architecture with corporate objectives and running lean, execution-first processes. He leads our EIB and EIC Fund engagements, as well as the M&A area.
